Landscape Crew Full-Time, Seasonal

Reports to: Landscape Lead

Pay Range: $18-22/hour

Wildscape Design is a landscape design, installation and garden management company that specializes in planting design for residential and commercial landscapes focused on ecological and regenerative gardens. We value working organically, using native and non-invasive introduced plants, a deep understanding of horticulture and a commitment to land stewardship.

Wildscape Design is a new business. We are entering our third full growing season, and as such we’re looking for a leader to help us grow and pursue new opportunities. We have had three years of consistent growth, and multiple large residential and institutional garden designs moving into installation in 2023 and beyond.  We are actively seeking early employees who can lead our growing team, acting as subject matter experts in your respective fields.

The Landscape Laborer/Gardener is a horticulturist and a garden builder. You will execute daily landscape and garden operations with our clients. You will be a critical member of the landscape crew and work closely with the company owner’s.

The Laborer/Gardener is one of the first operations roles at Wildscape Design. As such, you will be required to show up on time and ready for work, with a high degree of independence and flexibility. As Wildscape Design grows, you may have the opportunity to hire, build, and lead your own landscape & gardening crew. 

You’ll work primarily in the field on our client’s properties, with daily travel required to and from each jobsite. This is a dynamic role – while your day-to-day will rarely repeat, we will rely upon you to successfully follow your schedule in an efficient and timely fashion, with a high degree of independence and communication with our clients and your supervisors.

Requirements:

  • The ability to show up ready to start the workday at 8:30 am Monday through Friday.

  • Show up each day in a professional manner wearing clothes appropriate for the weather.

  • The ability to use all types of garden hand tools.

  • Understanding of effective time management.

  • Eagerness to learn about horticulture, plants, and garden design.

  • The ability to stay focused and on task while working independently.

  • The ability to work outdoors in Vermont’s ever-changing weather.

  • Must be capable of lifting and carrying up to fifty (50) pounds, repeatedly.

  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation to and from job sites across Chittenden County.

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred, but may be substituted for requisite work experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with loading and unloading trucks with necessary tools and materials for each project.

  • Assist other crew members to complete daily tasks & projects, on both garden management and garden install days, including working with plants, preparing garden beds and installing simple hardscape elements.

  • Complete necessary record-keeping for each project.

  • Keep all company vehicles, and job sites neat and organized.

  • Manage tools responsibly by keeping them clean, organized, and accounted for.

Spring, Summer, Fall Employment:

  • Assist in managing gardens throughout the season to ensure healthy plant growth by weeding, transplanting, hand pruning, . 

  • Assist on garden install days with managing materials, soil preparation, light grading, planting, transplanting, clean up, seeding, watering, installing simple hardscape elements and other tasks as needed.

  • Clean up gardens in the spring and prepare them for the growing season.

  • Weeding, deadheading, transplanting, removing existing plants as needed.

  • Preparing new garden beds.

  • Hand pruning shrubs and small trees.

  • Mulching garden beds as necessary.

Job type: Full-time seasonal; 32-40 hours per week, weather-dependent

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm
